Exhibition « dignité »

French Institute, Rabat, 2010

Jamal Abdenassar, Imad Mansour, Corinne Troisi and Abdelaziz Zerrou, visual artists, chose to work together on the notion of dignity.

To deserve dignity means to respect oneself. It means also to respect others - all of them. An attitude which comes from inside before shining outside. So, the four artists working at the French Institute decided to work both inside and outside. Outside, on the building walls, each of them proposed his personal vision on the subject, using various forms and materials: painting, video, sculpture and installations. Inside, in the showroom, they took up the challenge to work together:

Look at yourself

Dignity is a state of mind. Facing oneself, facing the world. The four artists are pictured in the room, gazing into the visitor's eyes, who sits on a chair and becomes part of the installation which surrounds him. He can discover his own reflection in a mirror which replaces him in his own life, in front of himself and in the midst of others.

In this constant movement between oneself and the world, another medium comes in to open the space closed by the installation: a video projection showing each artist's poetic vision of dignity.
